About this event

Join our Water Bugs Survey and learn how to be a smart water researcher using all kinds of special equipment. You may not have noticed before, but our rivers and creeks are home to hundreds of different types of water bugs!

By using your detective skills, you are encouraged to discover and identify the amazing creatures that lurk beneath the surface. You will learn how to look for water bugs and what else is hidden in our watercourses.

Water bugs are not only an important food source for many animals, they also play a vital role in the health of our waterways. Some are very sensitive to pollution, so by monitoring their numbers and diversity, we can keep track of how healthy our waterways are.

The data collected is recognized nationally and shared with our municipalities to provide up-to-date information about the health of our waterways.
