Bulldogs, Matt Burton contract offer, how much money, years, Phil Gould

The Bulldogs have reportedly made a “huge offer” in their bid to retain gunplaymaker Matt Burton, but Canterbury boss Phil Gould said only two words when pressed for his confirmation.

Canterbury has offered Burton a four-year deal worth more than $3 million, according to Danny Weidler on Nine’s 100% Footy.

The 22-year-old is under contract with the Bulldogs until the end of 2023 and has a player option for 2024

Gould remained tight in his chair on the 100% Footy panel, using only the words “commercial confidentiality”.

“I think Matt Burton is in a position where he wants to stay with the Bulldogs,” Weidler said.

“He likes the direction the club is heading, especially now that Cameron Ciraldo is appointed and the top dog is also in charge, Phil Gould.”

Paul Gallen suggested that Burton was worth more.

“You did well there,” Gallen said to Gould.

“That’s less than a million dollars a year.

“You did a good job.”
