Philippa Boquida will represent Team Australia in the Digital Cup of the FIA Motorsport Games.
Team Australia has secured the services of another representative for this year’s FIA Motorsport Games, with Philippa Boquida to compete in the Digital Cup.
A highly skilled sim racer, Boquida earned her spot in Team Australia after winning an intense qualifying program in September.
After setting one of the fastest 20 times in the FIA’s global Hot Lap program, Boquida dominated the two races in the final qualifying stage in a clear performance.
Boquida defeated fellow contender Ryan Hoolihan in qualifying and led the first race from lights to flag, beating Hoolihan by seven seconds, before taking an even bigger win in the second race with a 14-second margin between her and second-placed Matthew Lamb .
As a result of her selection, Boquida will become the sixth Australian to enter the FIA Motorsport Games, alongside Matt Campbell, Stephen and Brenton Grove, Aaron Cameron and karting duo Aiva Anagnostiadis and Peter Bouzinelos.
The Victorian will now take on the rest of the world with deep esports experience, following a scintillating 2022 season, culminating in a GT World Challenge Esports Asia Sprint Series Championship title and 10 wins in the competitive RaceOnOz Monday Night League.
With one of her biggest challenges ahead, Boquida looked forward to the opportunity to represent her country.
“Representing Australia is an incredible feeling and although the feeling has not settled yet, it is very exciting to know that I will get this opportunity,” said Boquida.
“I’m not quite sure what to expect as I’ve spent a lot of my time in sim racing online, but I’m looking forward to competing via LAN (local area network) at the Motorsport Games against some of the best sim racers in the world .
“All my previous tournament experience was in other games, but that should serve me well for the Games and I think I’ll be pretty comfortable with that.
“Thanks to Motorsport Australia for giving me this incredible opportunity and having had a good year so far I’d love to add something to my collection and make this country proud.”
Motorsport Australia CEO Eugene Arocca congratulated Boquida on his selection to represent Team Australia at the Games.
“Philippa has shown over the past year that she is extremely talented when it comes to Esports and she is well on her way to becoming the best in the country in this growing discipline,” said Arocca.
“Team Australia has been fortunate enough to have won gold in this discipline at the inaugural FIA Motorsport Games and I have no doubt Phillipa will do a great job trying to take the consecutive gold.
“Congratulations to her for earning the opportunity to represent her country and we wish her the best of luck in her attempt to claim gold.”
During the FIA Motorsport Games Digital Cup, participants will take advantage of the world-renowned Assetto Corsa Competizione platform with racers competing and driving digital GT3 cars, the same cars that will compete in GT, GT Sprint and Endurance disciplines of the games.
The 2022 FIA Motorsport Games will take place at Circuit Paul Ricard in Marseille from October 26-30.
